Until her appointment at MDE, she worked as an attorney with the Davis, Agnor, Rapaport &amp; Skalny law firm in Columbia. Prior to that position, she was an intellectual property manager and patent agent specializing in biotechnology for private firms and was a biotech patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She also was an assistant professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Secretary Tung earned a bachelor\u2019s degree in biology from the University of Cincinnati, a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from Wright State University, was a postdoctoral associate in pharmacology and virology at the Yale University School of Medicine and received her J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. She is a member of the Maryland bar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMary brings a rare combination of skills and experience to the Department,\u201d said MDE Secretary Ben Grumbles. \u201cShe will help to support our efforts in a number of areas, from searching for innovative ways for the Department to work more efficiently to providing guidance and support to our science-based efforts. She is a great addition to the MDE team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am honored to have been chosen to join the Maryland Department of the Environment as Deputy Secretary. It\u2019s a privilege to serve with Secretary Grumbles and the many talented MDE employees,\u201d Deputy Secretary Tung said. \u201cI look forward to finding ways to make a strong Department even stronger to protect public health and the environment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Secretary Tung lives in Clarksville, Howard County. She is married with two grown children.
