The second-place winner will receive $500 and the third-place winner will receive $250.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for nominations is\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">May 1, 2015<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<a style=\"color: #1155cc\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mde.state.md.us\/programs\/Marylander\/Documents\/ESSAwardApplication2015.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Application forms<\/a>\u00a0and instructions\u00a0are available on MDE\u2019s website and may be submitted by email to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #1155cc\" href=\"mailto:Nadine.Jackson-Bey@maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Nadine.Jackson-Bey@maryland.gov<\/a>\u00a0or by mail to: Maryland Department of the Environment, Office of the Secretary, 1800 Washington Boulevard, 7th\u00a0Floor, Baltimore MD\u00a0 21230, Attention: Nadine Jackson-Bey.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">MORE INFORMATION:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2014, the Department advertised the Environmental Science Student Award as a pilot project with three environmental magnet high schools in the Baltimore area.\u00a0 This is the first year that MDE has opened the award and internship to all Maryland high school seniors.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">CORE FACTS:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The award recognizes high school seniors that have excelled in environmental science programs. Students that have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and participation in environmental projects in school or the community such as recycling drives, school beautification projects, stream or litter cleanups and other types of environmental projects are encouraged to apply.<\/li>\n<li>The 2014 recipient of the Environmental Science Student Award was Sidney Mason of Western School of Technology and Environmental Science. Sidney was chosen by the MDE award panel judges because of his work as a Maryland Conservation Corps volunteer in Patapsco Valley State Park. Sidney assisted MDE with various projects over the course of the summer, including work on Maryland\u2019s\u00a0<a style=\"color: #1155cc\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mde.state.md.us\/programs\/Marylander\/Pages\/ZeroWastePlan.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Zero Waste Plan<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The top winner as determined by MDE judges will receive a paid summer internship at MDE.<\/li>\n<li>Applications are due to MDE no later than\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">May 1, 2015<\/span><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Winners will be notified by\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">June 1, 2015<\/span><\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">QUOTES:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaryland has always been a leader in supporting education in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
