State Officials Monitoring WSSC Water Service Interruptions

BALTIMORE (September 29, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Environment (MDE), in coordination with local emergency management agencies, is closely monitoring ongoing technical issues affecting WSSC Water service.

Residents in Montgomery and Prince George’s County should be aware that operational challenges—including electrical power issues at the Potomac Water Filtration Plant —may result in extended water service disruptions or low pressure.

State and local authorities are coordinating directly with WSSC Water to support recovery efforts, restore full capacity, and ensure public safety. Please note: This issue is strictly due to electrical challenges and is not related to any security incident or external threat.

Customers are asked to limit all water use and only use water when absolutely essential while crews work to resolve the situation. Water does not need to be boiled at this time to be safe to consume. Please monitor WSSC channels for updates on boil water advisory notices. Further updates will be provided as additional verified information becomes available.
