Maryland Department of the Environment to partner with Steuart Hill Academy in West Baltimore for Governor Hogan’s “Maryland Unites: Day of Service” event

MDE volunteers will beautify school building and grounds in preparation for the upcoming year

(Baltimore, MD) – The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) will partner with Steuart Hill Academic Academy Elementary School in West Baltimore to provide volunteer assistance in preparing the building and surrounding grounds for the upcoming school year, including: cleaning up trash, moving furniture into classrooms and painting the interior walls of hallways and classrooms. This event is a part of Governor Larry Hogan’s “Maryland Unites: Day of Service” initiative.

Where: Steuart Hill Academic Academy Elementary School, 30 S. Gilmor Street, Baltimore, MD 21223

When: Wednesday, August 12, 2015, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Why: Maryland Unites (www.marylandunites.org) was created in the wake of civil unrest in Baltimore in April, and has raised over $500,000 toward relief efforts. The “Day of Service” initiative is an opportunity for state employees to offer their time and talents to benefit our citizens through community service. State employees will receive four hours of paid leave if they choose to participate and have the option to take part in the agency event or a volunteer activity of their choice.
