Maryland Green Registry to announce Leadership Award winners at annual event

(BALTIMORE, MD – June 10, 2014) Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Robert M. Summers will announce the Maryland Green Registry Leadership Award winners at the fifth annual Registry Member and Leadership Awards event, recognizing local businesses from Frederick, Montgomery and Washington counties. Secretary Summers will also announce the total annual environmental results and cost savings as reported by all 420 Maryland Green Registry member organizations over the past year. This year the Registry has partnered with Bethesda Green for an evening of networking and information sharing.

In addition to the awards, member organizations that submitted videos of their environmental best practices for the Registry’s “View Our Videos”library will be entered into a prize drawing.

WHO:  MDE Secretary Robert M. Summers, members of the Maryland Green Registry and Bethesda Green, and other members of the business and environmental communities.

WHEN:  Wednesday, June 11, 2014, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Awards presentation begins at 6 p.m.

WHERE:  Courtyard by Marriott Chevy Chase, 5520 Wisconsin Avenue, Chevy Chase, MD 20815. Onsite parking is FREE courtesy of the Courtyard by Marriott.

WHY:  The Leadership Awards recognize organizations that have shown a strong commitment to implementing sustainable practices, demonstrating measurable results and continually improving environmental performance. Governor O’Malley launched the Maryland Green Registry in 2009 to promote the sustainable greening efforts by organizations of all types and sizes within the State. Each year, the collective annual results as reported by member organizations demonstrate the significant environmental benefits and costs savings that can be achieved through sustainable practices. The collective annual results for 2012-2013 were $74 million.
