{"id":897,"date":"2011-03-09T17:04:50","date_gmt":"2011-03-09T17:04:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=897"},"modified":"2012-08-20T18:30:14","modified_gmt":"2012-08-20T18:30:14","slug":"2011-maryland-seafood-festival-list-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2011\/03\/09\/2011-maryland-seafood-festival-list-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"2011 Maryland Seafood Festival List Now Available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 9, 2011) \u2013 Dozens of seafood festivals will be held throughout Maryland this summer and continue through November.\u00a0 Festivals range in size and diversity from St. Mary\u2019s County Oyster Festival in Leonardtown to the 35th Annual Tawes Crab and Clam bake in Crisfield.\u00a0 Festivals can be found from Annapolis to Crisfield, from Havre De Grace to Solomons Island and many places in between. Included in the list is a directory of fee fishing farms so anglers can catch their own fish and have their own festivals!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeafood festivals give residents and visitors the chance to sample a variety of Maryland\u2019s fine seafood products and regional delicacies,\u201d said Agriculture Secretary Buddy Hance.\u00a0 \u201cThe list highlights events that benefit a variety of organizations and are sure to delight families with delicious food and activities featuring the history and culture of life on the Chesapeake Bay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some festivals specialize in certain seafood such as crabs, oysters or fish, while others have a taste of it all.\u00a0 Festivals include entertainment and educational activities for the entire family.<\/p>\n<p>For the cooking enthusiast, certain festivals are host to cooking contests.\u00a0 The National Hard Crab Derby and Fair plays host to the Annual Crab Cooking Contest, the Maryland Seafood Festival boasts the Crab Soup Challenge and the St. Mary\u2019s County Oyster Festival is the home of the National Oyster Cook-off.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 Maryland Seafood Festival List is available online at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marylandseafood.org\/\">www.marylandseafood.org<\/a>\u00a0or by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to 2011 Seafood Festival List, Maryland Department of Agriculture, Seafood Marketing Program, 50 Harry S.
