{"id":794,"date":"2011-05-24T14:46:53","date_gmt":"2011-05-24T14:46:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=794"},"modified":"2012-08-20T14:47:52","modified_gmt":"2012-08-20T14:47:52","slug":"your-oyster-recipe-may-be-worth-1300","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2011\/05\/24\/your-oyster-recipe-may-be-worth-1300\/","title":{"rendered":"YOUR OYSTER RECIPE MAY BE WORTH $1,300!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANNAPOLIS, MD (MAY 24, 2011) \u2013 Do you have an original oyster recipe?\u00a0 Do you receive rave reviews whenever you serve it?\u00a0 If so, you may be awarded $1,300 and a silver tray by entering your best original oyster recipe in the 32nd Annual National Oyster Cook-off.\u00a0 Be sure to enter your original recipe by Aug. 31, 2011.\u00a0 You may be selected as one of nine contestants to compete at the cook-off on Sat., Oct. 15th in Leonardtown, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>Cash prizes of $300, $200 and $150 will by awarded to the top three finalists in each of the categories:\u00a0 Hors d\u2019oeuvres, Soups and Stews, and Main Dish.\u00a0 The Grand Prize Winner will be selected from the first place winners of each category and will receive an additional $1,000 and a silver tray.\u00a0 There will also be awards for Best Presentation of dish and People\u2019s Choice.\u00a0 In addition to cash prizes, contestants receive one night of hotel accommodations, and an invitation to a welcome reception.<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s winners were: Grand Prize and Hors d\u2019oeuvres division \u2013Michaela Rosenthal of Woodland Hills, Calif., for her Coconut and Chili Crusted Oysters; Main Dish division \u2013 Amy Angelo of Pennsville, NJ, for her Oyster Rockefeller Ravioli; and Soups and Stews division \u2013 Barbara Hahn of Park Hills, Mo., for her Bayou Oyster Soup.<\/p>\n<p>The National Oyster Cook-off is held in conjunction with the St. Mary\u2019s County Oyster Festival and the world-famous National Oyster Shucking Contest.\u00a0 The cook-off is sponsored by Maryland\u2019s Seafood Marketing Program, St. Mary\u2019s County Department of Economic and Community Development and the Rotary Club of St. Mary\u2019s (Lexington Park).<\/p>\n<p>To enter, see the contest rules at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marylandseafood.org\/\">www.marylandseafood.org\u00a0<\/a>or request a hard copy by calling 301-475-4200 x1402.\u00a0 The 31st Annual Cookbook, containing 31 award winning recipes is now available.\u00a0 Send a check for $6, payable to the National Oyster Cook-off Cookbook to: National Oyster Cook-off Cookbook, Department of Economic and Community Development, P.O.
