Agriculture Secretary Hance will make a stop on the Ice Cream Trail tomorrow to help meet the Buy Local Challenge.<\/p><\/div>\n

ANNAPOLIS, MD \u2013 In celebration of National Ice Cream Month, Maryland Agriculture Secretary Buddy Hance encourages all Marylanders to enjoy fresh, delicious ice cream as he continues trailblazing the Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trail, a network of dairy farms across the state that produce ice cream right on the farm and sell it directly to consumers who visit. Eight dairy farms are participating in MDA\u2019s Ice Cream Trailblazer promotion. Under the program, people pick up an Ice Cream Trailblazer Passport at any of the creameries (or online at www.marylandsbest.net) and have it \u201cstamped\u201d at each creamery. Those who submit a completed passport to MDA before September 9 will be entered in a drawing for the grand prize, which includes a $50 gift certificate to the winner\u2019s favorite creamery.<\/p>\n

Who\/What:\u00a0<\/strong>Secretary Hance visits Broom\u2019s Bloom Dairy, a farm-based creamery on the \u201cMaryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trail\u201d in celebration of National Ice Cream Month.<\/p>\n

Why:\u00a0<\/strong>To highlight the important contributions of Maryland\u2019s 496 dairy farms which accounted for $188 million in sales in 2012; and to increase the public\u2019s general understanding of dairy farming by encouraging them to visit a farm and see what dairy farming is really like, all while enjoying delicious, locally produced ice cream.<\/p>\n
