{"id":30065,"date":"2026-09-25T10:24:25","date_gmt":"2026-09-25T14:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=30065"},"modified":"2026-09-25T10:24:25","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T14:24:25","slug":"public-notice-unscheduled-mosquito-control-activity-to-occur-in-baltimore-county-and-cecil-county-on-september-27","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2026\/09\/25\/public-notice-unscheduled-mosquito-control-activity-to-occur-in-baltimore-county-and-cecil-county-on-september-27\/","title":{"rendered":"PUBLIC NOTICE: Unscheduled Mosquito Control Activity to Occur in Baltimore County and Cecil County on September 27"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 25, 2026)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in cooperation with the Baltimore County Health Department and the Cecil County Health Department, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">will expand mosquito control services in areas due to a public health concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultra-Low Volume truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of <\/span><b>Sunday, September 27, 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Chesapeake City, covering the radius between Court House Point Road to Route 310 to Town Point Road to Short Cut Road.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultra-Low Volume truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of <\/span><b>Sunday, September 27, 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Nottingham, covering the radius from Hartford Road to Oak White Road to Magledt Road and back to Harford Road.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spraying will occur <\/span><b>after 7:30 p.m. ET<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in both locations. In the event of inclement weather, spraying will be rescheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MDA Mosquito Control Program personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/mosquitocontrol\/permethrin-resmethrin-d-phenothrin-sumithrinr-synthetic-pyrethroids-mosquito-control\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">has approved<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, out of an abundance of caution, MDA recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA suggests that residents take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wear long, loose fitting, light colored clothing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wear insect repellents according to product labels.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Avoid mosquito infested areas during prime periods of activity (between dusk and dawn).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Install, inspect, and repair window and door screens in homes and stables.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regularly clean bird baths and bowls for pet food and water.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Remove or empty all water-holding containers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Routine spray program schedules are available by county on the program&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/plants-pests\/Pages\/mosquito_control.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
