The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/horseboard\/Pages\/grants.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Horse Board Grants Program <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">provides funding for research, education and promotional activities that further develop Maryland\u2019s horse industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These grants are supported through the Maryland Feed Fund, which collects $6.00 from each ton of horse feed sold in the state. Since the fund was established in 2002, nearly $700,000 has been awarded to more than 450 projects that support horses, horse owners, equine organizations, educational institutions and local communities. The deadline to apply for the 2027 grant program is <\/span><b>October 5, 2026<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMaryland\u2019s horse industry is an essential part of our state\u2019s agricultural heritage and economy, supporting thousands of jobs, preserving farmland and strengthening communities across Maryland,\u201d said <\/span><b>Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201cThe Maryland Horse Board Grants Program is a smart investment in that future, helping organizations educate, innovate and promote the many opportunities our equine industry provides. Every project we support helps ensure Maryland remains a premier destination for horses, horse owners and equine businesses.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applicants are encouraged to review the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/horseboard\/SiteAssets\/Pages\/grants\/Grants%20FY2027%20Guidelines.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2027 Grant Guidelines<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> prior to applying. Funding requests should not exceed $3,000 with the average award amount being around $850. In 2025, the MHIB awarded nearly $25,000 in funding to 36 projects statewide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eligible parties include nonprofit organizations, equine associations, clubs, businesses, licensed farms and stables, educational institutions, and local and state government entities. Projects that demonstrate collaboration and strengthen Maryland\u2019s equine industry will receive additional consideration.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Applications must be submitted through the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSctqcUSpPkCbehZsf6hq5GiqKpnwyva7bcD4i3UdQEh8HApjw\/viewform\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online portal <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">found on the Maryland Horse Board Grants Program webpage. Grant recipients will be announced in January 2027. All funded projects, with final reports received by MHIB, must be completed by June 30, 2027.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The MHIB was established in 1998 to promote and develop Maryland\u2019s equine industry.
