Under <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/regs.maryland.gov\/us\/md\/exec\/comar\/15.03\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland law<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the program is required to follow the standards and requirements of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncwm.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Council on Weights and Measures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.ncwm.com\/userfiles\/files\/Exams\/Reference%20Material\/RSA\/2026_NIST_HB44_VTM_RSA.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Handbook 44<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which in recent years adopted standards for EVSE.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As electric vehicle use continues to grow across Maryland, MDA has worked towards the establishment of EVSE standards into the existing Weights and Measures Program. In December 2025, MDA extended the deadline to register public EVSE chargers to July 1, 2026, allowing additional time for engagement with EV owners, businesses, industry representatives and local communities. Following those discussions, the department made the decision to reduce the registration fee for public EVSE chargers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019ve listened to the concerns, support and feedback shared by electric vehicle owners, local businesses and industry partners,\u201d said Maryland Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks. \u201cReducing the registration fee allows us to continue supporting a reliable and accurate electric vehicle charging network while easing the cost for Maryland residents and businesses.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EVSE chargers that are<\/span><b> not available for public use<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014including chargers at private residences, workplaces, multifamily dwellings or those used exclusively for private fleets where commercial transactions do not occur\u2014do <\/span><b>not <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">require registration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/weights_measures\/Pages\/EVSE_Registration.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">EVSE Registration webpage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> provides information on how to register EVSE chargers in Maryland, along with frequently asked questions and definitions to help clarify which chargers require registration.
