This annual cookout celebrates Maryland agriculture by featuring Maryland restaurants partnering with Maryland farmers and watermen to showcase products like wild-caught Chesapeake blue catfish, oysters, beef, sweet corn, watermelon and more! The cookout includes Maryland elected officials, ag industry stakeholders, community leaders, non-profit organizations and of course, our farmers and seafood producers!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur Buy Local Cookout is more than just a celebration of Maryland&#8217;s incredible food\u2014it&#8217;s a celebration of the hardworking farmers, watermen and chefs who drive our state&#8217;s economy forward,\u201d said <\/span><b>Governor Wes Moore.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cBy bringing everyone to the table, we honor generations of agricultural heritage while recommitting to the work of building a stronger future for Maryland\u2019s agriculture and economy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Department of Agriculture is seeking Maryland farmer or watermen chef teams to participate in the Governor\u2019s Buy Local Cookout. A \u201cchef\u201d is a person with professional culinary training.\u00a0 Culinary high school and college teams may be eligible to receive donations of blue catfish and\/or chicken if selected to participate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Recipes will be selected in the following categories: appetizer, main dish, side dish or salad, and dessert. Original recipes will be judged on simplicity, creativity, ingredient availability, geographic representation and use of local ingredients. At least 50% of ingredients must be locally sourced. Recipes should yield four to eight servings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMaryland\u2019s farmers and watermen produce some of the best food in the country, and this cookout is proof that local ingredients can create unforgettable meals,\u201d said Secretary of Agriculture Kevin Atticks. \u201cSupporting local agriculture means supporting Maryland jobs, protecting our farmland and keeping our communities strong.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selected teams will be invited to provide, prepare and share their dish at the Governor\u2019s Buy Local Cookout. Complete rules of entry and additional information are available on the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marylandsbest.maryland.gov\/governors-buy-local-cookout\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland\u2019s Best website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0Recipes must be submitted through the following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/nd18M9HztMjcGgbv7\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online form<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by June 2, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Previously submitted recipes are not eligible.
