With periods of heavy rains and excessive heat during key reproductive crop cycles, yields have been down across the state. But farmers don\u2019t dwell, they overcome, and Maring\u2019s adoption of double-crop soybeans and implementation of cover crops to limit runoff and erosion serve as shining examples of farmers\u2019 perseverance. Maring\u2019s hard work and adaptability \u2013 as well as his exemplary land stewardship and community service \u2013 earned him the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/2024\/05\/31\/at-oscars-of-farming-woodbine-man-earns-lifetime-achievement-award\/\">2024 Mid-Atlantic Master Farmer of the Year<\/a> award.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Brandywine Cow Cuddles (Prince George\u2019s County)<\/strong> \u2013 As a former executive of a vascular surgery center, Aiden Dart is very familiar with stress. Cow cuddling \u2013 or \u201cbovine-assisted therapy\u201d \u2013 involves interacting with cows for therapeutic benefit. After seeing the solace her daughter found being around cows in high school, Dart purchased three highland cows for her family\u2019s six-acre property in Brandywine. Then, she started <a href=\"https:\/\/brandywinecowcuddles.com\/\">Brandywine Cow Cuddles<\/a> to help others experience the same calming effect. Today, Dart operates Brandywine Cow Cuddles as a full-time job, introducing people to the scientifically proven benefits of interacting with cows.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 12pt\"><strong>Farm to Skillet: Chef Matt Lego (Anne Arundel County) <\/strong>\u2013 Chef Matt Lego of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leoannapolis.com\/\">Leo<\/a> in Annapolis leads viewers through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacofarmersmarket.com\/\">Anne Arundel County Farmers\u2019 Market<\/a>, where he finds fresh ingredients including meats and vegetables from local farms including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/p\/Knopps-Greenhouses-and-Markets-100054451151465\/\">Knopps Farm<\/a> (Severn) and <a href=\"https:\/\/shlagelfarms.com\/\">Shlagel Farms<\/a> (Waldorf). Back at the restaurant, Lego uses the locally produced ingredients to cook up a continental chicken dish he\u2019s honed since childhood.
