A preview of the new episode can be found on the series\u2019 webpage at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpt.org\/programs\/farm\/\">mpt.org\/farm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Maryland Farm &amp; Harvest airs on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on MPT-HD and online at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpt.org\/anywhere\/live-stream-mpt\/\">mpt.org\/livestream<\/a>. Episodes are also available to view live and on demand using the free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpt.org\/anywhere\/pbs-app\/\">PBS app<\/a> and MPT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/video.mpt.tv\/show\/maryland-farm-harvest\/\">online video player<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The popular weekly series takes viewers on a journey across the Free State, telling engaging and enlightening stories about the farms, people, and technology required to sustain and grow agriculture in Maryland, the state\u2019s number one commercial industry.<\/p>\n<p>With introductions filmed at <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.farmacybrewing.com\/about\">Willowdale Farm<\/a><\/strong> in <strong>Reisterstown (Baltimore County)<\/strong>, the February 25 episode features the following stories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vineyards at Dodon (Anne Arundel County)<\/strong> \u2013 Dodon Farm in Davidsonville has primarily been in the Pittman family for 10 generations. The protected land trust covers more than 550 acres of natural forest, pasture, a farmstead, and \u2013 since 2010 \u2013 the burgeoning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dodonvineyards.com\/\">Vineyards at Dodon<\/a>. Co-owners Polly Pittman and Tom Croghan explain how their careers in public health helped them integrate modern science into their farm operations, enabling the couple to develop an \u201cagroecological-focused winery\u201d that produces superb wines while enhancing biodiversity within and around the vineyard\u2019s grounds. Their focus on soil health is paying dividends, as the Vineyards at Dodon was the only winery outside of California to be named a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wineenthusiast.com\/culture\/industry-news\/wsa-nominees-2024\/?queryID=845d67df331c85ec2f047f44e7dddce6&amp;objectID=post#183345&amp;indexName=PROD_WINEENTHUSIAST_ARTICLES\">2024 finalist for American Winery of the Year<\/a> by Wine Enthusiast magazine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Future Harvest Beginner Farmer Training (Baltimore County)<\/strong> \u2013 In 2022, the average age of the American farmer was 58 years old. The <a href=\"https:\/\/futureharvest.org\/programs\/beginner-farmer-training-program\/\">Beginner Farmer Training Program<\/a> (BFTP), run by the Cockeysville-based nonprofit <a href=\"https:\/\/futureharvest.org\/who-we-are\/\">Future Harvest<\/a>, aims to replenish this aging farmer population through mentorship and training. Viewers meet first-generation farmer Sam Phelps, who is turning his love for farming into a full-time career with help from the program and BFTP mentors Jack and Beckie Gurley, owners of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calvertsgiftfarm.com\/\">Calvert\u2019s Gift Farm<\/a> in Sparks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Local Buy: John Newman Honeybee Company (Baltimore City) <\/strong>\u2013 Segment host Al Spoler visits <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejohnnewmanhoneybeeco.com\/\">John Newman Honeybee Company<\/a> in Baltimore City\u2019s Curtis Bay neighborhood, where he meets Chief Operating Officer Kairi Dukes. Al suits up to help Kairi harvest some honey at the urban apiary. There, he also learns about the company\u2019s history and embrace of beekeeping as an opportunity to empower and reconnect African Americans to their agricultural roots.
