These easements will permanently preserve 495 acres of prime farmland in Kent, Queen Anne\u2019s, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">St. Mary\u2019s and Wicomico counties for an investment of more than $1.9 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThanks to these farmers and all the farmers that volunteer to sell and extinguish their development rights through the MALPF program. Due to their commitment, the land base is protected for the agricultural industry, which as Maryland\u2019s largest industry, is critical to the state\u2019s economy, environment, food supply and quality of life,\u201d said Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder. \u201c<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">View a list of the MALPF easements broken down by county <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/Documents\/Maryland%20Agricultural%20Land%20Preservation%20Foundation%20Easement%20Purchases%20-%2012.7.22.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. These newly-approved easements will help the state meet its Chesapeake Bay goal of conserving and preserving over 1 million acres of productive agricultural land by 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/MALPF\/Pages\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MALPF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was established in 1977 as part of the Maryland Department of Agriculture. MALPF purchases agricultural preservation easements from willing farmers that forever protects prime farmland and woodland.
