Marylanders Encouraged To Visit Creameries Across The State This Summer<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

ANNAPOLIS, MD\u2014<\/b>Governor Larry Hogan was joined by Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) Secretary Joe Bartenfelder Wednesday June 8 to kick off <\/span>Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trail<\/span><\/a> at South Mountain Creamery in Frederick. The Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trail\u2019s 2022 season will run through September 30. Now in its tenth year, the trail is designed to promote the state\u2019s dairy industry, and has become increasingly popular, drawing participants from across the state and the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nothing like farm fresh ice cream on a hot summer day,\u201d said Governor Hogan. \u201cThese creameries produce some of the best with fresh Maryland dairy products and local produce. Taking part in the trail supports this vital part of our agricultural community, and gives Marylanders and visitors to our state the opportunity to explore the beauty Maryland has to offer from the mountains to the beaches.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The 2022 Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trail features 10<\/span> on-farm creameries that produce and sell their ice cream directly to consumers and stretches more than 290 miles from Washington County to Worcester County. The trail encourages the public to learn more about agriculture and dairy farming, and highlights the important contributions of Maryland\u2019s 325 dairy farms. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture 2017 Census of Agriculture, dairy farms accounted for more than $174 million in sales in Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trail is just one unique way we showcase what Maryland agriculture has to offer,\u201d said MDA Secretary Bartenfelder. \u201cThe creameries across the state represent hard work and dedication to quality. I encourage all Marylanders to get out this summer and enjoy farm fresh, delicious ice cream!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream \u2018Trailblazers\u2019 are asked to snap a photo or selfie at each of the 10 creameries and submit them via email to <\/span>icecream.trail1@maryland.gov<\/span><\/a> once they have completed the trail. All participants are encouraged to share their progress on social media using #MDIceCreamTrail.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 2022 Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trail on-farm creameries include: <\/span>Prigel Family Creamery<\/span><\/a> (Baltimore County), <\/span>Deliteful Dairy<\/span><\/a> (Washington County), <\/span>Kilby Cream<\/span><\/a> (Cecil County), <\/span>South Mountain Creamery<\/span><\/a> (Frederick County), <\/span>Rocky Point Creamery<\/span><\/a> (Frederick County), <\/span>Broom\u2019s Bloom Dairy<\/span><\/a> (Harford County), <\/span>Keyes Creamery<\/span><\/a> (Harford County), <\/span>Woodbourne Creamery at Rock Hill Orchard<\/span><\/a> (Montgomery County), <\/span>Misty Meadow Farm Creamery<\/span><\/a> (Washington County), and <\/span>Chesapeake Bay Farms<\/span><\/a> (Worcester County).<\/span><\/p>\n

All completed email submissions will receive a \u201c2022 Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Trailblazer\u201d certificate, and one lucky winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to the creamery of their choice, a copy of the children\u2019s book \u201cTales of the Dairy Godmother: Chuck\u2019s Ice Cream Wish,\u201d and the 2022 Maryland\u2019s Best Ice Cream Champion Trailblazer trophy.
