These easements will permanently preserve an additional 3,339 acres of prime farmland in Caroline, Charles, Frederick, Garrett, Queen Anne\u2019s Somerset, St. Mary\u2019s, Talbot, and Worcester counties for an investment of more than $14 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cKeeping farming viable in Maryland starts with preserving valuable farmland,\u201d said Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder. \u201cFortunately, Maryland has one of the most successful agricultural land preservation programs in the country. Thanks to the easements approved today, 22 more farm families will be able to continue their legacy of providing food, fuel, and fiber to the region.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">View a list of the MALPF easements broken down by county that were approved at the Board of Public Works meeting on the Maryland Department of Agriculture\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/Documents\/Maryland%20Agricultural%20Land%20Preservation%20Foundation%20Easement%20Purchases%20-%20May%2011,%202022.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. These newly-approved easements will help the state meet its goal of conserving and preserving over 1 million acres of productive agricultural land by 2030.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/MALPF\/Pages\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">MALPF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was established in 1977 as part of the Maryland Department of Agriculture. MALPF purchases agricultural preservation easements from farmers that forever protect prime farmland and woodland.
