{"id":263,"date":"2012-05-01T12:07:43","date_gmt":"2012-05-01T12:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=263"},"modified":"2012-08-09T12:08:37","modified_gmt":"2012-08-09T12:08:37","slug":"mdas-maryland-horse-industry-board-sponsors-free-screening-of-misty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2012\/05\/01\/mdas-maryland-horse-industry-board-sponsors-free-screening-of-misty\/","title":{"rendered":"MDA&#8217;s Maryland Horse Industry Board Sponsors Free Screening of Misty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 1, 2012) \u2013 The Maryland Horse Industry Board (MHIB), a program of the Maryland Department of Agriculture, is sponsoring a free screening of the feature movie \u201cMisty\u201d to kick off the \u201cHorses in Cinema\u2014A Celebration of the Preakness\u201d film series at the American Film Institute (AFI) Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. The movie is part of a new eight horse-powered film series, which runs at AFI from May 12-17 and leads up to the Preakness Stakes on May 19. Such classics as \u201cNational Velvet,\u201d \u201cThe Black Stallion\u201d and \u2018The Red Pony\u201d will be shown as well as the popular movie, \u201cSecretariat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe movie is dedicated to anyone who ever wanted a pony,\u201d said MHIB Chair Jim Steele. \u201cWe hope that many families will come and see \u2018Misty.\u2019 The Horse Board is proud to be part of this new series that honors film, horses, and the Preakness. We are also very pleased to be involved with such a great national organization as the American Film Institute.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMisty,\u201d filmed in 1961 and based on the children\u2019s novel by Marguerite Henry, was filmed in Maryland and Virginia and tells the story of two children who save their money to purchase the pony \u201cMisty\u201d at the Chincoteague Pony Penning Days.
