George\u2019s County Health Department, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">will expand mosquito control services in multiple areas due to a public health concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of <\/span><b>Thursday, September 23,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in parts of <\/span><b>Bladensburg, Calvert Hills, College Park, Colmar Manor, Cottage City, Edmonston, Lakeland, North Brentwood,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><b>Riverdale Park. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spraying will occur within a one-mile radius of the following intersections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>51st Street and Varnum Street<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Columbia Avenue and College Avenue<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of <\/span><b>Sunday, September 26,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in parts of <\/span><b>Capitol Heights, Laurel, Pepper Mill Village, Seat Pleasant, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><b>Yorkshire Knolls. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spraying will occur within a one-mile radius of the following intersections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Onyx Court and Pepper Mill Drive<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Harrison Drive and White Way<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Doublerock Court and Belle Chase Boulevard<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of <\/span><b>Monday, September 27,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in parts of <\/span><b>Bowie <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and<\/span><b> Oxon Hill. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spraying will occur within a one-mile radius of the following intersections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Capt. Wendell Pruitt Way and Stoneridge Court<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Ellerton Road and Excalibur Road<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>English Oaks Drive and Collington Road<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of <\/span><b>Tuesday, September 28,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in parts of <\/span><b>Greenbelt. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spraying will occur within a one-mile radius of the following intersections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Ridge Road and Eastway<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spraying will occur after 9 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, spraying will be rescheduled for the next available evening. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mosquito Control personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/mosquitocontrol\/permethrin-resmethrin-d-phenothrin-sumithrinr-synthetic-pyrethroids-mosquito-control\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">has approved<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, out of an abundance of caution, the department recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA suggests that residents take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites.
