This will include parts of the following communities: <\/span><b>Brentwood, Campus Way North, Colmar Manor, Enterprise Woods HOA, Glenarden, Hyattsville, Landover Hills, Mt. Rainier, and West Lanham Hills.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) truck-based spraying to control adult mosquitoes is planned for the evening of <\/span><b>Thursday, August 12,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> within in a one-mile radius of the following intersections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Veterans Parkway and Ellin Road<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">70th Avenue and Taylor Street<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">St. Joseph\u2019s Drive and Doubletree Lane<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rhode Island Avenue and Wallace Road<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Taylor Road and Longfellow Street<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spraying will occur after 7:30 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, spraying will be rescheduled for the next available evening. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mosquito Control personnel will use a permethrin-based solution that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/mosquitocontrol\/permethrin-resmethrin-d-phenothrin-sumithrinr-synthetic-pyrethroids-mosquito-control\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">has approved<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for use in public health mosquito control programs without posing unreasonable risks to human health. However, out of an abundance of caution, the department recommends avoiding outdoor activities during spraying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While not all mosquitoes carry diseases, MDA suggests that residents take precautions to minimize their exposure to mosquito bites. These measures include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wear long, loose fitting, light colored clothing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wear insect repellents according to product labels<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Avoid mosquito infested areas during prime periods of activity (between dusk and dawn)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Install, inspect, and repair window and door screens in homes and stables<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regularly clean bird baths and bowls for pet food and water<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Remove or empty all water-holding containers&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All Marylanders are encouraged to follow MDA\u2019s Twitter feed <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/MdAgMosquito\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">@MdAgMosquito<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that will post unscheduled spray events and other timely information about mosquito control in Maryland.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Routine spray program schedules are available by county on the program&#8217;s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/plants-pests\/Pages\/mosquito_control.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more information, please call MDA\u2019s Mosquito Control Program at 410-841-5870.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b># # #<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spraying Planned for Evening of Thursday, August 12 ANNAPOLIS, MD \u2013 The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), in cooperation with the Prince George\u2019s County Health Department, will expand mosquito control services in multiple locations due to a public health concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases.
