Photo credit: Maryland Public Television<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>ANNAPOLIS, MD <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2013 Maryland Public Television\u2019s (MPT) popular original series<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mpt.org\/programs\/farm\/\"> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Farm &amp; Harvest<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, now in its eighth season, will feature farms and locations in Carroll, Cecil, Queen Anne\u2019s, and Washington counties during a new episode airing on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Farm &amp; Harvest<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> takes viewers on a journey across the state, telling stories about the farms, people, and technology required to sustain and grow Maryland agriculture \u2013 the state\u2019s number one commercial industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With introductions filmed at<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitcharlenefarm.com\/\"> <b>Char-Lene Farm<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Carroll County,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Maryland Farm &amp; Harvest<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019s newest episode features the following segments:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b><i>The 4-Legged Landscapers: Goats<\/i><\/b><b> (Queen Anne\u2019s County). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The old rumor that goats will eat anything isn&#8217;t really true, but they do eat a wide variety of plants. That&#8217;s why Brian Knox and Jennifer Vaccaro run<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eco-goats.com\/\"> <b>Eco-Goats<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, which rents out a herd of 27 goats to clear unwanted weeds and vegetation. Viewers follow Brian and Jennifer to a residential property in Kent County, where their four-legged landscapers clear out an overgrown space, all without heavy equipment or herbicides. There\u2019s also a stop at<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wherepigsfly.farm\/#home-section\"> <b>Where Pigs Fly Farm<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Centreville, where the two farmers raise a variety of livestock for eggs and meat.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b><i>Greenhouse Donates Extra Produce to a Local Shelter<\/i><\/b><b> (Cecil County). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/deeprootsinc.org\/\"> <b>Deep Roots Inc.<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a transitional housing facility in Earlville, the staff works to show residents that &#8220;homelessness is not destiny.&#8221; A key component of this is providing fresh, healthy meals to the families that live there. To help make these meals, the shelter receives donations from the nearby<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/priapigardens.com\/\"> <b>Priapi Gardens<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Cecilton, where Vic and Mary Priapi run an 11-acre plant nursery, organic vegetable farm, and garden center. Some of the veggies on the menu are colorful purple and yellow carrots, and even some of the pickiest little eaters at Deep Roots turn out to love them.<\/span><\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b><i>The Local Buy: Elderberries<\/i><\/b><b> (Washington County). <\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Local Buy <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">host Al Spoler travels to<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nativemountainfarm.com\/\"> <b>Native Mountain Farm<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Boonsboro, where farmer Natasha Bowens Blair grows a variety of flowers, herbs, and fruit. One of the farm\u2019s most interesting crops is the tiny elderberry, which packs a healthy punch of antioxidants. Natasha, who is also an author of the book \u201cThe Color of Food,\u201d shares her experience as a farmer of color and explains why it&#8217;s important that her daughters are involved with the farm. Then, Al learns about the health effects of the elderberry and shares Natasha&#8217;s recipe for an elderberry tonic, which will be available for viewers at<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpt.org\/programs\/farm\/recipes\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">mpt.org\/farms<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b><i>The Way it Works: Electric Fence.<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Segment host Joe Ligo explains how the &#8220;electric&#8221; gets into an electric fence, and shows how farmers use electric fences to keep livestock safe.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Nearly 10 million viewers have tuned in to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Farm &amp; Harvest<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> since its 2013 debut. The series has taken MPT viewers to more than 360 farms, fisheries, and other agriculture-related locations during its first seven seasons, covering every Maryland county, as well as Baltimore City and Washington, D.C.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New episodes of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Farm &amp; Harvest<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> air on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. on MPT-HD and are live-streamed on MPT\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mpt.org\/anywhere\/live-stream-mpt\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
