The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) will host the annual Maryland Farmers\u2019 Market Conference on February 28 at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center to provide information on state regulations to farmers\u2019 market stakeholders. This year the conference will feature three tracks: one for experienced farmers\u2019 market managers, one for farmers and vendors, and one for new farmers\u2019 market managers.<\/p>\n

The conference will provide opportunities for networking and connecting with experts on farmers\u2019 market issues in Maryland and nationally. A locally sourced lunch will be included, as well as a time for farmers\u2019 market managers to meet with prospective farmers and vendors. The deadline to register for the conference is February 15.\u00a0Register online<\/a>.<\/div>\n

Anyone involved with or interested in the operations of farmers\u2019 markets should plan to attend the 2013 Farmers\u2019 Market Conference.<\/div>\n

Farmers\u2019 markets have multiplied in recent years due to increased demand for fresh, local food. MDA\u2019s Marketing Division supports farmers\u2019 market development, fosters links between farmers and consumers through the Maryland\u2019s Best branding program, and administers the Farmers\u2019 Market Nutrition Programs which provide checks to buy fresh produce for nutritionally at-risk women, infants, children and income-eligible senior citizens while increasing sales for farmers.<\/div>\n
