These new laws aim to strengthen the department\u2019s ability to monitor for infectious animal diseases and streamlines other department programs including Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation (MALPF).<\/p>\n<p>Summary of Bills Signed Thursday:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=hb0050&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2019RS\">HB 50<\/a> \u2013 Maryland Produce Safety Program<br \/>\n<\/strong>Authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to conduct inspections and compliance\/enforcement activities related to the FDA\u2019s Produce Safety Rule.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=hb1353&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2019RS\">HB 1353<\/a> \u2013 Nuisance Insects<br \/>\n<\/strong>Authorizes the Secretary of Agriculture to carry out a program to control or eliminate nuisance insects across the state in partnership with local jurisdictions.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=sb0025&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2019RS\">SB 25<\/a> \u2013 Conservation Easements, Covenants, Restrictions and Conditions \u2013 Recording Notice<br \/>\n<\/strong>Authorizes MALPF and other state programs to record notice of certain easements, covenants, restrictions, and conditions in the land records of the county in which the property interest is located.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=sb0056&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2019RS\">SB 56<\/a> \u2013 Regulation of Poultry to Protect Animal Health and Control Avian Influenza<br \/>\n<\/strong>Authorizes Secretary of Agriculture to adopt an annual licensed Animal Health Protection Program that will be applicable to certain live poultry market operators, production facility operators, or poultry dealers for the purpose of protecting animal health and controlling avian influenza.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=sb0057&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2019RS\">SB 57<\/a> \u2013 County Agricultural Land Preservation Programs<br \/>\n<\/strong>Extends the length of time a county may retain certain revenue from the agricultural land transfer tax for use in certain agricultural land preservation programs.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=sb0058&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2019RS\">SB 58<\/a> \u2013 MALPF \u2013 Elimination of District Agreements<br \/>\n<\/strong>Deletes obsolete references to district agreement within the MALPF program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Written testimony for all departmental bills and other bills of interest during the 2019 General Assembly is available on the department\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/about_mda\/Pages\/2019-Legislation.aspx\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"># # #<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Follow Maryland Department of Agriculture on Twitter <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/mdagdept\">@MdAgDept<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ANNAPOLIS, MD\u00a0\u2013 Governor Larry Hogan signed six bills submitted by the Maryland Department of Agriculture during a signing ceremony today at the State House.
