Treatment is scheduled for Wednesday, May 30, starting at 8 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The department will apply a <em>Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti)-based<\/em> larvicide via helicopter (Bell 206 Long Ranger, green and white paint scheme.\u00a0Tail number is N641HA<em>). Bti is a <\/em>naturally occurring bacteria found in soils worldwide. It is a bacterial insecticide, not a chemical, and is only harmful to a very limited variety of organisms including midge, black fly, and mosquito larvae and a few other aquatic Dipteran (flies) insects.<\/p>\n<p>The treatment may cause temporary discoloration of the water, but it completely nontoxic and is not harmful to humans, fish, crabs or other aquatic invertebrates.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/plants-pests\/Documents\/bti.factsheet.pdf\">More Information\u200b<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Black Fly Suppression Pilot Program was established by the General Assembly (<a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=hb0870&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2016rs\">House Bill 508<\/a>, 2016).
