Treatment is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, starting at 8 a.m.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The department will apply a\u00a0<em>Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti)-<\/em><em>based<\/em>\u00a0larvicide via helicopter (Bell 206 Long Ranger, green and white paint scheme.\u00a0Tail number is N641HA<em>).\u00a0<\/em><em>Bti\u00a0<\/em><em>is a\u00a0<\/em>naturally occurring bacteria found in soils worldwide. It is a bacterial insecticide, not a chemical, and is only harmful to a very limited variety of organisms including midge, black fly, and mosquito larvae and a few other aquatic Dipteran (flies) insects.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The treatment may cause temporary discoloration of the water, but it completely nontoxic and is not harmful to humans, fish, crabs or other aquatic invertebrates.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mda.maryland.gov\/plants-pests\/Documents\/bti.factsheet.pdf\">More Information\u200b<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The Black Fly Suppression Pilot\u00a0Program was established by the General Assembly (<a href=\"http:\/\/mgaleg.maryland.gov\/webmga\/frmMain.aspx?id=hb0870&amp;stab=01&amp;pid=billpage&amp;tab=subject3&amp;ys=2016rs\">House Bill 508<\/a>, 2016).
