Part of Department\u2019s Celebration of Maryland Agriculture Week<\/em><\/h3>\n

\nANNAPOLIS, MD<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Secretary Joe Bartenfelder today visited second- and third-grade students at Lothian Elementary School (Anne Arundel) to read\u00a0See What We Eat<\/em>, this year\u2019s official book of the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation (MAEF)\u00a0Ag Literacy Program<\/a>. The book follows a group of children on a farm tour that introduces each of the basic food groups and emphasizes the importance of healthy eating and local food production.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m happy to be here today with the students from Lothian Elementary School and to share my passion for agriculture and the environment with them. Agriculture provides the food and nutrition to help students to succeed in school,\u201d said Secretary Bartenfelder. \u201cWorking together with educators, our public libraries, and families across Maryland, we can prepare the future leaders of Maryland to live and learn with excitement.\u201d<\/p>\n
