{"id":20665,"date":"2016-09-02T09:00:48","date_gmt":"2016-09-02T13:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=20665"},"modified":"2016-09-01T15:34:37","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T19:34:37","slug":"boxwoods-shipped-to-pennsylvania-need-new-documentation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2016\/09\/02\/boxwoods-shipped-to-pennsylvania-need-new-documentation\/","title":{"rendered":"Boxwoods Shipped to Pennsylvania Need New Documentation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANNAPOLIS, MD<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0 Any Maryland growers, wholesalers, landscapers or other distributors who plan to ship boxwoods to Pennsylvania are now required to have a phytosanitary inspection and certification or to develop a compliance agreement with the Maryland Department of Agriculture in order to get these shrubs across the state line.<\/p>\n<p>The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture recently implemented a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pabulletin.com\/secure\/data\/vol46\/46-26\/1071.html\">quarantine <\/a>to prevent the introduction or movement of boxwood blight in Pennsylvania. Boxwood blight is caused by a fungus and was first found in Pennsylvania in 2012. The disease can result in complete leaf loss and death of the plant.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who intends to ship boxwoods from Maryland into Pennsylvania must meet these new requirements.
