{"id":20635,"date":"2016-08-22T12:27:20","date_gmt":"2016-08-22T16:27:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=20635"},"modified":"2016-08-22T14:17:28","modified_gmt":"2016-08-22T18:17:28","slug":"public-notice-mda-to-increase-mosquito-control-activities-in-montgomery-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2016\/08\/22\/public-notice-mda-to-increase-mosquito-control-activities-in-montgomery-county\/","title":{"rendered":"PUBLIC NOTICE: MDA to Increase Mosquito Control Activities in Montgomery County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ANNAPOLIS, MD<\/strong> \u00a0\u2013 The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Montgomery County Department of Health &amp; Human Services, will expand mosquito control services in areas of Montgomery County tonight due to a public health concern over the potential for mosquito-borne diseases, including West Nile virus and Zika virus.<\/p>\n<p>Mosquito control truck-based spraying will occur on\u00a0Monday, August 22,\u00a0weather permitting, in the Wheaton area of Kensington and the Olde Town area of Gaithersburg in Montgomery County.<\/p>\n<p>Spraying will begin at or after 7:30 p.m. Any existing spray exemptions in the area will be temporarily suspended. People should avoid outdoor activities on spray nights. As a follow up, within approximately 24 to 48 hours of the spraying, state and local inspectors will go door-to-door in the area to inspect properties for mosquito breeding sites and will conduct backyard spraying, as needed, to further reduce adult mosquito populations.<\/p>\n<p>Please cooperate with state and local officials who may be in your neighborhood working to protect public health.
