Maryland is home to a thriving nursery industry with 313 farms producing more than $225 million worth of plants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are lots of local options for Marylanders to consider when planting perennials and annuals around our yards this spring,\u201d said Secretary of Agriculture Joe Bartenfelder. \u201cMaryland has many local greenhouses and nurseries. From hardware stores to farmers markets, many retailers stock Maryland-grown plants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The largest segment of the state\u2019s nursery industry is wholesale. Markets for Maryland-grown plants stretch throughout the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast, and into Canada. According to the most recent census data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Maryland had $207 million of wholesale receipts in the nursery industry during FY2014.<\/p>\n<p>To find a nursery operation near you, visit the Maryland\u2019s Best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marylandsbest.net\/\">website<\/a>.
