Governor to Kick-off\u00a0 “Buy Local Challenge” Week; Cookout to Feature Locally Grown Recipes Created by Selected Chefs<\/em> <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 12, 2010) \u2013 Governor Martin O\u2019Malley next week will host a \u201cBuy Local\u201d cook out to officially kick-off Maryland\u2019s \u201cBuy Local Challenge\u201d week, which challenges Marylanders to incorporate at least one locally-grown, produced or harvested product into their meals each day.\u00a0 At the Governor\u2019s cook out, 17 teams of local producers and chefs will prepare creative recipes showcasing the diversity of local products available in Maryland.\u00a0 Government House chefs will also prepare a few favorites recipes of theirs and the O\u2019Malley family featuring local products.\u00a0 The cook out will take place this Thursday, July 15 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Government House in Annapolis.
\n\u201cBuy Local Challenge\u201d week is July 17 through the 25.\u00a0 Buying locally is key to ensuring a smart, green and growing future for Maryland families. It preserves farmland, protects the environment, bolsters local economies, and provides wholesome, nutritious, great-tasting fresh food.
