{"id":13043,"date":"2015-02-09T13:59:10","date_gmt":"2015-02-09T18:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=13043"},"modified":"2015-02-09T13:59:10","modified_gmt":"2015-02-09T18:59:10","slug":"cost-share-grants-for-manure-incorporation-and-injection-now-available-from-mda-sign-up-ongoing-at-local-soil-conservation-districts-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2015\/02\/09\/cost-share-grants-for-manure-incorporation-and-injection-now-available-from-mda-sign-up-ongoing-at-local-soil-conservation-districts-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Cost-Share Grants for Manure Incorporation and Injection Now Available from MDA; Sign-Up Ongoing at Local Soil Conservation Districts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2014\/02\/ManureFieldDay-153.jpg?resize=300%2C207\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" \/>ANNAPOLIS, MD \u2013 The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has announced that cost-share grants are available to help farmers cover the cost of injecting or\u00a0 incorporating manure and other eligible organic nutrients into cropland as required by Maryland\u2019s nutrient management regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Maryland\u2019s revised nutrient management regulations require farmers to inject or incorporate manure and other organic nutrient sources into the soil within 48 hours of application in order to achieve maximum water quality benefits for streams, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay.<\/p>\n<p>Assistance is available to hire custom operators, rent or lease equipment, or offset operating costs associated with using secondary tillage equipment needed to incorporate or inject manure into the soil. Cost-share rates for manure incorporation and injection range from $10 to $55 an acre depending on the type of equipment or services used.\u00a0 Farmers who use manure injection equipment receive the highest reimbursement rates. \u00a0While transportation costs are not cost-shared under this program, the Manure Transportation Program is available for eligible farms.<\/p>\n<p>Grants for manure incorporation and injection are administered by the Maryland Agricultural Water Quality Cost-Share (MACS) Program. Applicants must be in good standing with MACS to participate and in compliance with the Nutrient Management Program.\u00a0 All work must be completed by June 2, 2015, and all claims for payment received by June 10, 2015.\u00a0 Other restrictions apply.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers should visit their local soil conservation district office as soon as possible to apply.
