{"id":11123,"date":"2014-08-13T14:57:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-13T18:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/?p=11123"},"modified":"2014-08-13T15:02:13","modified_gmt":"2014-08-13T19:02:13","slug":"mda-launches-new-ads-for-manure-happens-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/mda\/press-release\/2014\/08\/13\/mda-launches-new-ads-for-manure-happens-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"MDA Launches New Ads for \u201cManure Happens\u201d Campaign; Builds on Spring Campaign to Educate General Public, Farmers about Manure Management, Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ANNAPOLIS, MD <\/strong>\u2013The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has launched a targeted information program aimed at farmers as part of its recently introduced \u201cManure Happens\u201d public outreach campaign.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mda.maryland.gov\/SiteAssets\/Pages\/Manure\/manurehappens.JPG?resize=398%2C174\" alt=\"\" width=\"398\" height=\"174\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The end-of-summer campaign includes a series of four educational ads being circulated this month on social media and in agricultural newspapers throughout the state including <em>Delmarva Farmer<\/em> and <em>Lancaster Farming<\/em> encouraging farmers to consider using manure as a fertilizer and soil conditioner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The ads describe the benefits of using manure to improve the soil, increase yields and save on commercial fertilizer costs. Farmers are directed to MDA\u2019s new \u201cManure Happens\u201d web site for more comprehensive insight on the benefits of manure, including information on grants to haul and incorporate manure into fields along with tax breaks for qualifying equipment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the adoption of new nutrient management requirements placing limits on manure use, it is important to open up markets for livestock and poultry farmers who may need to transport their manure to other farms that can use this valuable resource safely using the latest scientific techniques and conservation practices to protect water quality in streams, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay,\u201d said Maryland Agriculture Secretary Buddy Hance.<\/p>\n<p>The farmer education campaign includes four color advertisements. The\u00a0\u201cTalk is Cheap\u201d ad focuses on the benefits of poultry litter as a soil conditioner and fertilizer. The \u201cChange is Good\u201d and \u201cStrike Pay Dirt\u201d ads highlight the economic benefits of switching to manure as a crop fertilizer.\u00a0 The \u201cGrow with Manure\u201d ad encourages farmers to look into the benefits of using dairy manure on their crop fields. All four ads direct readers to the new MDA webpage\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mda.maryland.gov\/manure\">www.mda.maryland.gov\/manure<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mda.maryland.gov\/SiteAssets\/Pages\/Manure\/cowadheadine.jpg?resize=268%2C222&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"222\" \/>The ads will run on social media and in agricultural publications throughout August.
