Jim Drews Named Program Manager for Turf & Seed Section
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Department of Agriculture has named Jim Drews as the new program manager for its Turf & Seed Section – the program that ensures the continued availability of high quality seed and sod to Maryland’s seed consumers.
In his new role, Drews is responsible for inspecting and certifying seed for Maryland, enforcing seed and sod labeling laws, and conducting lab tests on seed lots for purity, weed seeds and germination.
Drews has been with the department since 2001, starting as a regulatory and certification seed inspector on the Eastern Shore. In 2004, he began managing the statewide seed regulatory program. Most recently, Drews served as the operations manager for the seed lab & regulatory program. In addition to his job responsibilities, Drews has represented the department at a national level by serving on the Association of American Seed Control Officials (AASCO) Board of Directors as a current board member and past president. Drews has also previously served as the president of the Southern Seed Control Officials.
Before joining the department, Drews owned and operated a potato and grain farm in Allentown, New Jersey. Drews moved to Maryland in 1991 after accepting a position as a multi-state district sales manager for an international seed company.
