Maryland Department of Agriculture Releases Winter Farmers Market Guide

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Winter weather is here, but that does not mean farmers market season is over! Though a majority of Maryland’s 147 farmers markets end by late November, more than 15 of those markets will remain open for business throughout the winter months.

To help consumers locate these markets, the department has released its “Winter Farmers Market Guide.” This guide is a supplement to the department’s annual Farmers Market Directory. The winter guide is available online at the department’s website.

“As 2016 comes to a close, many farmers markets will continue through the winter months into early 2017,” said Secretary Joe Bartenfelder. “Maryland farmers are still offering their freshest products at several markets across the state, including locally-grown winter produce, meats, dairy, eggs, and much more.”

The department defines winter farmers markets as any public space where local agricultural items are sold directly from the grower or producer between December 1 and February 28. This includes full-time year-round markets, part-time markets operating during the season, and markets created specifically for the season.
