Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners Seeks Nominations

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is seeking nominations to fill one public member vacancy.  The Board serves as the licensing and registering body for veterinary practitioners, veterinary hospital owners, veterinary technicians, and animal control facilities. It is comprised of five veterinarians and two public members.

Board responsibilities include: setting standards that veterinarians, registered veterinary technicians, and veterinary hospital owners must comply with; licensing and registering veterinarians; licensing and inspecting veterinary hospitals; licensing animal control facilities; registering veterinary technicians; and investigating consumer complaints.

To be considered, applicants for the public member position must be Maryland residents and may not be veterinarians.  Preferred applicants will have experience raising and owning companion animals and have experience interacting with the regulated industry. Appointments are made by Governor Larry Hogan. Each Board member is eligible to serve two five-year appointed terms at the Governor’s discretion.

The Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The time will vary depending upon the Board’s agenda for the month. Board members are volunteers, but receive a per diem and travel expense reimbursement.
