Champion Mules, Riders to Receive December Touch of Class Award on Saturday;

ANNAPOLIS, MD (Dec. 6, 2013) – The Maryland Horse Industry Board (MHIB), a program within the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA), will present its December Touch of Class Award on Saturday to Madison and Miranda Iager, two teenage sisters from Woodbine (Carroll County), and their national champion mules. Awards will be presented at 11 a.m. at The Equiery Holiday Open House, 16008 Frederick Road, Lisbon, MD.

In July, Madison, a 14-year-old ninth grader, won the National Youth Mule Championship in her age division with her 7-year-old molly (female), March Madness, at the National Mule Show in Shelbyville, TN. Her younger sister, Miranda, a 13-year-old eighth grader, was Reserve National Champion in the same division with her 17-year-old molly, appropriately named A Touch of Class. In addition, both girls won similar awards in the donkey division. Previously, both sisters won high point youth mule and donkey awards at the All America Mule and Donkey Congress in Tulsa, OK. This is the first time that mules and their owner/riders have been honored with the Touch of Class Award.

The MHIB has honored more than 50 Maryland horses and people in 22 different equestrian disciplines with the Touch of Class Award. For more details, contact, Ross Peddicord, MHIB Executive Director, 410-841-5798 or email [email protected].
