Maryland Horse Industry Board to Help Sponsor “Day of the Horse” this Saturday
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Horse Industry Board (MHIB), a program within the Maryland Department of Agriculture, is joining forces with Graham Equestrian Center to help sponsor the “Day of the Horse” event on Saturday at Graham Equestrian Center, 10301 Harford Road, Glen Arm in Baltimore County. The public is invited.
Pony rides, a parade of breeds, exhibits of Chincoteague ponies, Baltimore City Arabbers and a half dozen riding demonstrations featuring all types of horsemanship, including an appearance by Kentucky Derby-riding woman jockey Andrea Seefeldt, are among equine activities being offered.
The one-day horse expo runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The admission fee is $10 per person, although children under 12 are free. Parking is free. There is a 50 percent discount offered to members of MHIB’s “Horse Pals” Club as well as other coupons offered by contacting the riding center. To join Horse Pals at no charge, visit the MHIB website at www.mda.maryland.gov/horseboard.
“The event is designed to attract newcomers of all ages who are interested in learning more about horses, as well as folks already involved in the equine community. It’s a great chance to experience horses up close and personal,” said Jim McDonald, president of the Graham Equestrian Center Board of Directors, which operates the facility.
Graham is one of nearly 700 riding stables licensed by MHIB and is situated on 187 acres in Baltimore County that is part of the Gunpowder Falls State Park. GEC offers a full scale lesson and horse boarding program as well as equine education classes and trail riding.
GEC has held the “Day of the Horse” event for several years, but this is the first time that the MHIB has joined forces with the facility to include the expo as part of its marketing program.
