MDA to Highlight Agency’s 40 Years of Service to Consumers During Maryland State Fair
ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) celebrates its 40th anniversary as an agency of state government this year, and the agency will highlights its important work during the 132nd Maryland State Fair, Aug. 23 to Sept. 2 at the State Fair Grounds in Timonium – also known as the 11 Best Days of Summer!
MDA has a diverse portfolio of functions and duties – from working with farmers to ensure sound farmland management practices to monitoring the accuracy of weights and measures to controlling invasive plants and pests to ensuring animal health. MDA will showcase many of these services with exhibits offering several kid-friendly activities.
“We invite everyone who goes to the State Fair this year to come spend some time with us in the Farm and Garden Building to learn more about Maryland agriculture and what MDA does to protect and improve the quality of life for all Marylanders every day,” said Agriculture Secretary Buddy Hance. “We will also have a lot of family friendly activities going on to make your visit with us fun and enjoyable.”
The Maryland State Fair will celebrate “Agriculture Day at the Fair” on Thursday, Aug. 29. The day will start off with an invitation-only luncheon and tour of the fairgrounds with Secretary Hance.
The 11-day festival will feature thousands of home arts and agricultural exhibits, daily livestock and horse shows, a wide variety of midway rides and games, thoroughbred horse racing and national entertainment. For more State Fair information, visit www.marylandstatefair.com.
