Media Advisory: Four National Jousting Champions from Maryland to be Recognized with Touch of Class Award by Maryland Horse Industry Board
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Marylanders swept all four divisions at the 2012 National Jousting Finals, and the Maryland Horse Industry Board (MHIB) will honor all four of them with a Touch of Class Awards at the 92nd Petersville Farmer’s Club Joust, Sunday, July 21, at the Petersville Farmer’s Club grounds, 3816 Petersville Road, in Brunswick (Frederick County). Jousting is Maryland’s official state sport.
The four jousters to be honored are: Corey Minnick, 31, of Washington County, who took first place in the Professional Division; Malcolm Macy of Harford County, who won the Amateur Division; Lily Fisher-Flaherty, 16, of Calvert County, who won the Semi-Professional Class; and Ian Flaherty, 10, of Calvert County who won the Novice Division.
Lily and Ian, who are siblings, ride at Tynewydd Riding Club in St. Leonard’s, a boarding and lesson barn operated by their mother, Viviane Fisher-Flaherty.
MHIB established the Touch of Class awards in 2011 to honor Maryland horses and people who achieve national and international recognition. The award is made each month and is named after the Maryland-bred mare, Touch of Class, who won two show jumping gold medals at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
