Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) Checks Now Accepted at Farmers Markets through Nov. 25

Farmers Markets in Maryland and Washington, D.C. that are authorized to accept checks through the  Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) – a program administered by the Maryland Department of Agriculture – may continue to accept them through November 25. The deadline for accepting the checks was October 31; however, the date was changed this year in response to requests by farmers and in recognition that many farmers markets are open through Thanksgiving.

The extension includes checks from the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and Seniors FMNP programs. These checks, which help low income residents have better access to healthy nutritious food, may be accepted by participating farmers at authorized markets for fruits, vegetables, cut herbs, and honey.
A map of the 73 FMNP-authorized farmers markets in Maryland and Washington, D.C. that are open during November can be found here.
Farmers market locations, hours, and producer/vendor and product listings are also available on the Maryland’s Best website at www.marylandsbest.net.
The FMNP program is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is administered by the Maryland Department of Agriculture in partnership with the Maryland Department of Aging and Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
