Chefs Go Fresh Farm Tour on July 16 – Join the Fun
ANNAPOLIS, MD (July 9, 2012) – Local Washington, D.C. and Maryland chefs will rev up for the “Chefs Go Fresh” motorcycle tour of local farms on Monday, July 16, in an effort to build relationships with area chefs and Maryland purveyors of produce, meats and other farm-raised products.
Chefs and others will start the day with breakfast at Brasserie Beck Restaurant in Washington, D.C., hosted by chef Robert Wiedmaier, co-founder of the original “Chefs on Bikes,” and owner of Marcel’s, Brasserie Beck, Brabo, Mussel Bar and the new Mussel Bar Atlantic City. Participating chefs will ride their motorcycles through the scenic Maryland countryside, stopping at three Maryland farms for presentations by farmers and highlights of Maryland’s Best products. The day will conclude with a pig roast lunch, hosted by “Top Chef” finalist, James Beard nominee and local agriculture supporter Bryan Voltaggio at his much-anticipated new restaurant, Family Meal in Frederick, Maryland.
The “Chefs Go Fresh” farm visits include: Shepherds Manor Creamery, featuring artisan sheep cheese (New Windsor, Carroll Co.) http://shepherdsmanorcreamery.com, Black Ankle Vineyards and Winery (Mt. Airy, Frederick Co.), www.blackankle.com; and England Acres featuring beef cattle, sheep, chickens and produce (Mt. Airy, Frederick Co.) www.englandacres.com/.
The event is hosted by the Maryland Department of Agriculture and the Georgetown Media Group. Cost is $60 and event is open to restaurant professionals and media. Transportation will be provided for anyone not riding a motorcycle.
