Media Advisory: Agriculture Secretary to Read to Sunderland Elementary School Students

ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 19, 2012) – Maryland Department of Agriculture Secretary and Calvert County native Buddy Hance will read to kindergarten and first grade students at Sunderland Elementary School as part of “Read Across Maryland” month (March) and Ag Literacy Week (March 19-24).

The reading will take place Friday, March 23, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. at Sunderland Elementary School in Sunderland (Calvert County).

For the fourth year in a row, the O’Malley-Brown Administration is partnering with MSEA, the Maryland Library Association and the Maryland Association of School Librarians to encourage educators, parents and children to read 30 minutes a day for 30 days as part of a “Read 30 30” theme.  This year marks the 2nd annual Ag Literacy Campaign, launched by the Maryland Agriculture Education Foundation, to visit elementary school classrooms across the state, read a selected book and talk to students about the importance of agriculture in their lives.
