Maryland’s Best Part of Social Network Game in Baltimore
Annapolis, MD (June 28, 2011) – In a media campaign to connect consumers and Maryland farmers, the Maryland Department of Agriculture is sponsoring Urbanite magazine’s and WTMD’s (89.7 FM) Great Baltimore Check-In.
The promotion will run from July 4 though Sept. 30. It is set up as a game through FOURSQUARE, a location based social network. Participants in the game visit any or all of the farmer’s markets in the Baltimore City area along with other city attractions to “check in.” Participants will be asked a question specific to farmers markets to ensure they visited.
Participants receive 5 points for “checking in” and then by answering the correct answer through FOURSQUARE the player can collect the full 10 points. People who have scored above a certain number of points are then entered to win a Vespa motor scooter. Various runner-up prizes will also be awarded.
Additionally if gamers post a picture to the Maryland’s Best website of a Maryland farmer at their stand, they will automatically be entered to win a basket full of Maryland produce.
“Maryland is rich with a large variety of farmers markets and Baltimore City is a great example. With this promotion we’re hoping to help urbanites in Baltimore to connect with Maryland farmers,” said Buddy Hance, Maryland Secretary of Agriculture.
