SSCC Meeting Set For July 27
The State Soil Conservation Committee will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, July 27, at 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, Solomons, Maryland. The meeting is open to the public and will focus on soil conservation and water quality program implementation and policy development. It is being held in conjunction with the summer meeting of the Maryland Association of Soil Conservation Districts. Established in 1938, the State Soil Conservation Committee coordinates the activities of Maryland’s 24 soil conservation districts, while advising the Secretary of Agriculture on matters relating to soil and water conservation. Nutrient Management Certification Exam Scheduled for August 6 The Maryland Nutrient Management Certification Exam will be offered Friday, August 6, at locations in Annapolis, McHenry and Salisbury, Maryland. Individuals who want to become certified to write nutrient management plans for farmers should attend. The cost is $50; however, government employees and farmers who have previously taken the exam are exempt from the exam fee. Nutrient Management Workshop Scheduled for September 9
The Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Nutrient Management Program will offer a one-day training course titled Practical Experience in Nutrient Management Thursday, September 9, from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Western Maryland Research & Education Center in Keedysville. Topics include the Web Soil Survey, perennial fruit planning, calibrating manure spreaders, the corn stalk nitrate test, the corn silage yield check, Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans, water quality assessment tools and nutrient trading. The $22 registration fee covers learning materials and lunch. Participants receive six credit hours toward the Maryland Nutrient Management Program’s continuing education requirement. Ag Education Golf Outing and Fundraiser Set for September 15
The Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation and the Maryland Greenhouse Growers Association will sponsor their annual Agricultural Education & Scholarship Golf Fundraiser on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Oakmont Green Golf Club in Hampstead. Tee time is noon. The registration fee is $100 per person. Corporate/team sponsorships are also available. Proceeds support the education and outreach programs of the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation and the Maryland Greenhouse Grower’s Association.
