MDA to Host Event to Connect Maryland’s Producers and Processors with Regional Retail and Wholesale Buyers

Registration Deadline is January 15

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 29, 2009) – The Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) is hosting an event on Thursday, January 21, to provide opportunities for Maryland farmers, producers and processors to increase sales by introducing them directly to food purchasing decision-makers. By the same token, buyers can find out what local products are available from the State’s producers to meet consumer demand. Buyers can typically find fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, seafood, and other specialty products at the event.

The trade show style event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Annapolis Elks Lodge (2517 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD). Each farmer/producer/processor will be provided a table to display his or her business information and products. Buyers will be able to visit the producer’s tables to speak to them one-on-one and learn more about their products.

“Rising consumer demand for healthy, locally-grown fruit and vegetables is sparking more interest in Maryland products from commercial purchasing agents and this event is a great opportunity to make direct contacts between buyers, farmers and processors,” said Secretary of Agriculture Buddy Hance.  “Our farmers play an important role in providing local, healthy food, protecting open farmland, and expanding rural economies to help keep Maryland smart, green and growing.”

The deadline to register for the event is January 15. To register, go to www.marylandsbest.net. For questions, contact Kate Mason at 410-841-5779 or [email protected].
