State Soil Conservation Committee Meeting Notice

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The State Soil Conservation Committee will meet on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. Limited seating is available for those who want to attend in person. The meeting is open to the public and will focus on soil conservation and water quality programs. For those interested in attending, please contact Alisha Mulkey, Executive Secretary for the State Soil Conservation Committee, at alisha.mulkey@maryland.gov for call-in information. Established in 1938, the State Soil Conservation Committee coordinates the activities of Maryland’s 24 soil conservation districts, while advising the Secretary of Agriculture on matters relating to soil and water conservation.

 


Maryland Horse Board Meeting Notice

The Maryland Horse Industry Board (MHIB) meeting will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Elizabeth Farina and Lauren Umlandt’s Clarity Riding Center, 3395 Davidsonville Rd., Davidsonville, MD 21035.  www.clarityriding.com

The meeting will include current information and discussion concerning Horse Board initiatives, updates from board members, and reports from stable inspectors. An overview of the Clarity Riding operation and a tour of the facility will follow. Clarity is unique in that the center offers Endurance Riding as well as hunter/jumper, dressage, eventing, foxhunting, and general riding skills in its lesson, training, and boarding program. Morgan horses, as well as many other breeds, are used extensively. The farm stands the four year-old Morgan stallion, Throwing Shade. The operation comprises three farms and a robust rotational grazing program.

Nutrient Management Advisory Committee Meeting Notice

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Nutrient Management Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for next Tuesday, June 4th, will be rescheduled to Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 9:00. 
The meeting will be held in person at MDA and offered virtually (virtual meeting information is below.) In 2024, the Maryland legislature passed Senate and House Bills that gives the MDA Nutrient Management Program authority to require permits on farms where Food Processing Residuals are applied. The new legislation becomes effective July 1, 2024.
MDA is currently working on draft regulations and June 4th will be your opportunity to review the draft regulations and provide input. Please try to attend or send a representative, and feel free to contact Dwight Dotterer, Dwight.Dotterer@maryland.gov, if you have any questions.

Maryland Seafood Marketing Advisory Commission Meeting Notice

The Maryland Seafood Marketing Advisory Commission will meet on Thursday, May 16th, 3 p.m. at the Maryland Department of Agriculture headquarters. Agenda items include: a presentation on “Blue Catfish & MD Seafood Exports Sales Opportunities in Singapore,” a presentation on the Voluntary Crab Quality Assurance Program, FSMA 204 update for the seafood industry, seafood marketing update and FY25 seafood marketing plans and strategy.

The meeting will include current information and discussion concerning Horse Board initiatives, updates from board members, and reports from stable inspectors. In addition, Gerardo Martinez will give us an overview and tour of Wild Kid Acres, the East Coast’s only bilingual agricultural education farm.
