MEDIA ADVISORY: Homegrown School Lunch Week Washington Co. School Event and Farm Creamery Tour Slated for Sept. 23
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Students in hundreds of public schools across the state will get a taste of fresh, Maryland-grown and produced food in their lunches during the sixth annual Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Week, Sept. 23-27. A statewide celebration with special educational activities and local lunch with students, farmers, and state and local officials will take place at Pangborn Elementary School in Washington County from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Monday, Sept. 23, followed by a tour of Misty Meadows Farm Creamery in Smithsburg (Washington County) starting at 12:15 p.m.
Now celebrating its sixth year, Homegrown School Lunch Week is designed to help educate students about where their food comes from, how it is produced, and the benefits of a healthy diet as well as to expand markets for Maryland farmers. More information: www.marylandfarmtoschool.org.
