Secretary Joe Bartenfelder Reads to Students at Two Caroline County Schools
Part of Department’s Celebration of National Agriculture Day and Maryland Agriculture Week
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Today, Maryland Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder visited Immanuel Lutheran Nursery School and Federalsburg Elementary School to read Right This Very Minute, this year’s official book of the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation (MAEF) Ag Literacy Program. The book takes readers on a journey from table-to-farm, breaking down how farmers and agriculture are involved in each and every meal we eat.
“The students of the Immanuel Lutheran Nursery School and Federalsburg Elementary School will play a critical role in the future of agriculture,” said Secretary Bartenfelder. “As younger generations are further removed from the farm, it is crucial to educate them on where their food comes from and the incredible effort it takes by farmers and producers to feed our state. I am happy to spend time with these young students so we can stress the important role agriculture plays in their lives every single day—providing food, fiber, and nutrition.”
Today’s reading events are part of the department’s ongoing celebration of Maryland Agriculture Week and National Agriculture Day. For ways to celebrate Maryland Agriculture Week, visit the department’s website and use #MdAgWeek to show your support on social media.
