Department Issues RFP for Farms and Families Grant Program

Funding Available for Programs That Benefit Food-Insecure, Farmers

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Department of Agriculture has issued a request for proposals for the Maryland Farms and Families grant program. This program aims to double the purchasing power of residents using federal nutrition benefits at farmers markets throughout the state. The program will provide access to fresh fruits and vegetables for food-insecure Marylanders, while increasing revenues for farmers markets.

Grants will be used to match purchases made using checks from the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and Women, Infants and Children benefits. The program will award up to $200,000 to non-profit organizations with the capacity to run this program in partnership with department for calendar year 2019.

All proposals should be submitted to the department by January 17, 2019. RFP forms and guidelines are available on the department’s website.
