Md. to Host Regional Aquaculture Conference
Annapolis, MD (November 19, 2010) – The National Aquaculture Association (NAA) and the United Soybean Board have teamed up with the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s (MDA) Aquaculture Development Program and University of Maryland Extension to sponsor an important one-day regional workshop, “The Four P’s of a Safe and Sustainable Aquaculture Industry: Practices, Presentation, Promotion and the Press” at MDA headquarters in Annapolis on December 14.
The workshop will provide fish and shellfish producers with the knowledge and skills to market their products more successfully, grow their businesses, help shape the public’s perception of aquaculture at the local level, and work with government decision-makers.
Workshop attendees will learn to provide positive, upbeat, scientifically accurate information to help spread the good news about U.S. aquaculture. In addition to the actual workshop, each participant will receive a toolbox containing handy references and important information.
Workshop instructors include Dr. Andy Goodwin and Dr. Nathan Stone of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB); Linda O’Dierno, NAA Outreach Coordinator; Betsy Hart, NAA Executive Director; and a local speaker. To help ensure the free exchange of ideas and concerns, workshop participation is structured for current and aspiring aqua-farmers and those involved in the industry.
The cost of the workshop is $15 per person and includes lunch. Please make checks payable to the University of Maryland and mail to: WREC, Attention Martha Milligan, P.O. Box 169, Cheston Lane, Queenstown, MD 21658. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The workshop will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. For more information e-mail [email protected].
